Into the Darkness
To discover and explore what is unseen of American suburban neighborhoods at night through photography. I have always fancied the beauty of night yet not always had the chance to appreciate it. I remember when I was in China, the nights were always lively in the city where I grew up. Yet after I came to the United States, the nights have appealed to me with mystery and uncertainty in a very different way. I have only lived in South Bend, which is a small town in Indiana and Providence, Rhode Island. These two places have shaped my perspective of the American suburban neighborhoods at night. For many reasons, I feel like both the beauty and ugliness of these neighborhoods have not been discovered and shown. Through this project, I would like to explore what is unseen in the darkness.
